How It Works

What Laser Hair Removal Actually Does

Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in your hair follicle. The laser sends a pulse of light that the dark pigment absorbs and converts to heat, and that heat damages the follicle enough that it stops producing hair. Surrounding skin, which holds far less pigment in the targeted range, is left alone.

The reason it takes more than one visit comes down to biology: a hair follicle can only be treated while it is in its active growth phase, and at any given moment only a portion of your follicles are in that phase. Each session catches a different group. That’s why most clients need 6–8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart — not because the first one didn’t work.

One piece of honest terminology that matters: the clinically accurate outcome is permanent hair reduction, not permanent removal. After a full course, the great majority of treated follicles stop producing hair, and what does grow back tends to be finer, lighter and much slower. Many clients come back for a maintenance session once or twice a year. Anyone promising you a permanent, one-and-done result is overselling it.

Your Appointment

What to Expect, Start to Finish

Every first visit at Majestic Laser begins with a free 30-minute consultation — no charge, no obligation to book.

  1. Free consultation and patch test

Nancy assesses your skin tone, hair type and the area you want treated, reviews your medical history and medications, and performs a small test patch to confirm the right settings for you.

  2. Your treatment plan

You’ll get a realistic session count, spacing and timeline before anything is booked — including an honest answer if laser hair removal isn’t the right fit for your hair type.

  3. The session itself

You’ll wear protective eyewear while Nancy passes the handpiece over the area. Most people describe the sensation as a warm rubber-band snap. A lip or chin takes a few minutes; legs or a back take closer to an hour.

  4. Straight back to your day

Mild redness and slight bumps around the follicles are normal and usually settle within a few hours. There’s no recovery period — most clients go right back to work.

  5. Shedding, then your next session

Over the following one to three weeks the treated hairs shed. You’ll return in 4–6 weeks to catch the next group of follicles entering their growth phase.

Before & After Your Session

How to Prepare and How to Care for Your Skin

Before your appointment

  • Shave the treatment area 12–24 hours beforehand — the laser needs the follicle intact below the surface
  • Stop waxing, plucking and threading for at least four weeks; those remove the follicle the laser needs to find
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for two weeks, and skip self-tanner for a week
  • Pause retinoids and exfoliating acids on the area for 3–5 days
  • Arrive with clean skin — no lotion, deodorant or makeup on the area
  • Tell Nancy about any new medication, especially antibiotics, which can increase light sensitivity

After your session

  • Expect mild redness and small raised bumps for a few hours — a cool compress helps
  • Skip hot showers, saunas, swimming pools and hard workouts for 24–48 hours
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily to any treated area that sees sun
  • Don’t pluck or wax between sessions — shaving is fine and won’t affect your results
  • Let the treated hairs shed on their own over 1–3 weeks; gentle exfoliation after a week can help
  • Call us if you notice blistering or anything that seems out of the ordinary

Before Majestic Laser opened in February 2023, getting professional laser hair removal in this part of the Panhandle meant a long drive and a full day gone. Now it’s a stop on Main Street — which matters when a treatment plan means coming back six to eight times.

Every session is performed by Nancy Becerril herself, a certified laser technician and advanced plasma specialist, fully licensed and insured. You see the same person every visit, so your settings, your progress and your skin’s response are tracked by someone who remembers them.

We serve Perryton and all of Ochiltree County, including Spearman and Booker, plus clients who drive in from Guymon, Oklahoma and Liberal, Kansas. Saturday appointments are available, and there’s easy parking right outside the door at 112 ½ S Main Street. Find us here.

Questions & Answers

Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most clients describe it as a warm snap against the skin, similar to a rubber band, and far more tolerable than waxing. Sensitive areas like the upper lip and bikini line are more noticeable than legs or arms. Sessions are short, and Nancy adjusts settings to keep you comfortable — tell her at any point if you need her to ease off.
How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?
Most areas need 6–8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, because follicles can only be treated during their active growth phase and they aren’t all in that phase at once. Coarse hair on the underarms or bikini area often responds faster than fine hair on the face. You’ll get a specific number at your free consultation.
Does laser hair removal work on blonde, red or grey hair?
This is the honest limitation of the technology. The laser targets pigment, so dark hair responds best. Blonde, red, grey and white hair contain little or no target pigment and respond poorly or not at all. Nancy will tell you straight at your consultation if your hair colour isn’t a good candidate rather than sell you a package that won’t deliver.
Is laser hair removal safe for darker skin tones?
Yes, with the right device settings. Nancy assesses your skin tone and performs a test patch before your first full session specifically to confirm safe parameters. This is also why sun exposure and self-tanner matter — a recent tan changes your skin’s pigment and the settings that are safe for it.
Can I shave between laser hair removal sessions?
Yes, and you should — shaving doesn’t affect your results at all. What you must avoid is waxing, plucking, threading and epilating, because they pull out the follicle the laser needs to target. Stop those at least four weeks before you start.
How much does laser hair removal cost in Perryton, TX?
Pricing depends on the size of the area and how many sessions your plan calls for — an upper lip and a full set of legs are very different treatments. You’ll get exact pricing for your specific plan at your free 30-minute consultation, with no obligation to book. Schedule yours here or call (806) 648-8777.
